LeBron James’ 6 dunks vs. Rockets key Lakers’ 7th straight win

0

HOUSTON — As LeBron James sat in front of his locker late Wednesday night, he had ice packs wrapped around his right elbow and both knees while his feet soaked in a bucket of ice. He insisted he felt every bit of his age, 41 years and 78 days old.

“Look at me right now,” James said after starring in a 124-116 road victory over the Houston Rockets that extended the Los Angeles Lakers‘ winning streak to a season-best-matching seven games. “Right now, I feel like s—. But in the game, I felt pretty good. Before the game, I didn’t feel that great. I mean, I was yawning and tired and telling myself, I was literally just like talking to myself like, ‘Come on, here we go. Let’s figure it out. Let’s get through it.’

“But I felt pretty good in the game. I’m happy I’m able to make a few plays to help our team win.”

Six of those plays during James’ 30-point performance on 13-of-14 shooting were dunks.

“That’s really impressive,” said Lakers star Luka Doncic, who had another sensational outing with 40 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. “It’s insane.”

According to ESPN Research, James hadn’t had that many dunks in a game since March 9, 2017. James threw down three alley-oops, matching his most in any game during his legendary 23-year career.

The first of those alley-oops was an errant lob from guard Marcus Smart to James on a back cut, a pass that appeared to be sailing into the baseline seats. But James soared to catch the pass and slam it home, a spectacular highlight for any player regardless of age.

“The fact that he’s 41, he’s still as athletic or more athletic than about 95 percent of the league — still — and he’s probably, I think everybody would agree, has lost a little athleticism,” said Lakers guard Austin Reaves, who had 14 points and eight assists. “It’s just insane to think [about]. It’s absolutely mind-blowing.”

James’ display of athletic prowess in Wednesday’s win was on the extreme end of the spectrum, but it wasn’t necessarily shocking. According to NBA Advanced Stats, he entered the night second in the league in fast break points (279) behind speedy Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey. James now has 77 dunks in 48 games, including three in Monday’s win over the Rockets.

“I’m not surprised anymore,” said Kevin Durant, the Rockets’ 37-year-old superstar who had 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the loss. “I mean, he’s a freak athlete. He’s a generational athlete. He cares and loves the game. Cares about his body. This is what he does. He’s built for this, you know what I’m saying? Since he was a kid.

“I think he could play until he’s 45 years old. I don’t know if he wants to be around that long, but I think he could play for another four to five more years, to be honest. And so yeah, it’s not a surprise anymore. I mean, his age, he is 41, but he looks great out there.”

James became the first Laker to score at least 30 points on 90% shooting from the floor since Shaquille O’Neal in March 2003. He became the oldest player in NBA history to accomplish that feat, a distinction previously owned by former Portland Trail Blazers center Arvydas Sabonis, who was 36 years and 108 days old when he scored 32 points on 11-of-12 shooting.

James’ lone miss came on a drive early in the fourth quarter. Houston’s Tari Eason was credited with a block, although James raised his arms and complained to the ref after falling to the ground.

“The one shot he missed, he was trying to foul bait,” Lakers coach J.J. Redick quipped.

Redick is also 41 years old, about six months older than James, and retired as a player in 2021 after a 15-year career. He joked that he feels like a “loser” seeing James’ explosiveness at his age on a regular basis.

“I can touch the rim still,” Redick said. “I can’t jump for three days after it, but I’ve got one jump in me.

“Just the preparation that he puts into his body over and over and over again — that to me is like the ultimate sign of competitive stamina. He just holds onto it every single day and he gets ready to ring the bell.”

The Lakers are relying on James less than ever and getting extraordinary results from the all-time leading scorer accepting his role as the team’s third offensive option behind Doncic and Reaves. James had 15 or fewer field goal attempts in his past eight games, twice as long as any previous streak in his career with that few shots. James is averaging 20.8 points on 61.5% shooting from the floor in that stretch, and the Lakers have won seven of the eight games.

“Part of the evolution of him on this team, and particularly in this stretch, has just been his patience,” Redick said. “His patience, knowing he’s going to get the ball and he’s going to have transition opportunities, and he’s going to have plays called for him, and he’s going to play off ball and get a corner 3 the first play of the game. He’s going to have those opportunities and he’s played really patiently.”

James’ last bucket in Wednesday’s win, which strengthened the 44-25 Lakers’ grip on the third seed in the Western Conference, was evidence of the chemistry developing between Doncic and him. Doncic split two defenders on a pick-and-roll to drive down the middle of the floor, and James excecuted a perfectly timed cut from the weak-side corner. Doncic drew a crowd in the paint and flipped a lob to James, who finished with two hands, a dagger that put the Lakers up six with 1:22 remaining.

Doncic celebrated by shuffling sideways up the court, smiling and staring down a courtside fan who had engaged him in a trash-talking conversation throughout the game.

“Winning’s fun, so just the way we play I think is a lot of fun,” Doncic said. “That’s what we do. We win and we have a good time.”

Duggar Family Tree, Josh Duggar Prison

Jessa Duggar (m. Ben Seewald)

Jim Bob and Michelle’s fifth child, Jessa Duggar, was born Nov. 4, 1992.

Jessa met Ben through church and he began courting her in 2013—the old-fashioned approach to romance coming as a brand-new notion to a lot of viewers. The kids never talked about their romances pre-engagement, so Jim Bob explained to People, “Courting is getting to know each other in a group setting, both families spending time together and the couple setting goals together to determine if they are meant to marry. With dating, a couple will often pair off alone and that sometimes leads to a more physical relationship.”

Ben asked for Jessa’s hand and then proposed in August 2014—sealing the deal by holding her hand for the first time. They married on Nov. 1, 2014. Jessa was pregnant with their first child when 19 Kids and Counting was canceled and TLC subsequently aired a special about sexual abuse, featuring Jill and Jessa, to further educate viewers on the subject. The sisters would end up the stars of their own show, Jill and Jessa: Counting On, that winter; the show then evolved to become Counting On, featuring other Duggar siblings as well.

Meanwhile, Jessa and Ben welcomed son Spurgeon on Nov. 5, 2015, son Henry on Feb. 6, 2017, daughter Ivy Jane on May 28, 2019 and daughter Fern in July 2021. In February 2023, Jessa shared that she suffered a miscarriage over the 2022 holiday season. She gave birth to son George in December 2023.

In August 2025, Jessa announced the birth of son Edward.

Duke likely without Patrick Ngongba for NCAA tournament opener

0

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Duke will open the NCAA tournament Thursday without big man Patrick Ngongba, who continues to recover from a foot injury, putting some added pressure on star freshman Cameron Boozer.

Duke coach Jon Scheyer confirmed Wednesday that Ngongba was “very unlikely” to see action in the Blue Devils’ tournament opener against Siena, and suggested the 6-11 sophomore could miss the weekend.

“He’s been progressing, … but think it’s very unlikely that he plays [Thursday],” Scheyer said. “We’re taking it day by day. He’s itching to play, but we’re not quite there just yet. … We’ll do everything we can to get ready for Saturday and go from there.”

Ngongba is averaging 10.7 points and six rebounds per game this season, but he hasn’t played since March 2. Scheyer has repeatedly said Ngongba has made good progress, but admitted Wednesday it’s been difficult to sketch out a clear timetable for his return.

“It’s not a setback,” Scheyer said. “It’s not just anything where you can say two weeks and you’re back, 12 days and you’re back. You have to take it step by step with what he’s doing. Everything is going in a good direction, but I think the comfort that we want him to feel is not quite there. So that’s something we can only know day to day.”

With Ngongba and guard Caleb Foster (foot) out during the ACC tournament last week, Duke has been forced to work with a seven-man rotation, and Scheyer said he’s concerned about the lack of depth. Moreover, the Blue Devils have gotten creative in designing lineups, including using Cameron Boozer more at the 5, particularly after some early foul trouble for Maliq Brown.

The gambit paid dividends, even as Boozer struggled with his shooting in the tournament final against Virginia, forcing defenses to move a big man out toward the perimeter and opening up opportunities for second-chance points for the Blue Devils. Duke had 21 offensive rebounds in the win over Virginia.

“Pat gave us and will continue to give us as we get him back is just the interior scoring,” Scheyer said. “It’s important. His rim protection is valuable. Then end of the day, Cam, he just has to slide over to play some more in that spot, where he hasn’t done that as much this year. I think we found some really good lineups that can be really tough to guard when we do that.”

BMW brings back the i3 as a funky four-door EV

0

BMW’s new class of EVs begins with the iX3 SUV, but you had to know it wouldn’t end there. The company’s engineers didn’t spend all that time working up a completely redesigned and substantially more efficient EV platform just for one crossover, and now it’s time for the second wave.

Meet the new i3, which takes the same basic motor, battery, and electronics package that powers the iX3, plus the Neue Klasse’s controversial styling cues, and applies it to a more familiar sedan shape, the sort of silhouette that BMW’s reputation was largely built upon.

It definitely looks a lot like the iX3, but with a slightly different intent. Sebastian K …

How to Win Your NCAA Bracket

0

Over the next three weeks, superstitions will be adhered to, fake sick calls into work will be made, buzzer beaters will drop and dozens of squads will be bounced from the beloved win-or-go-home tourney.

And come April 5 (for the women) and April 6 (for the men), two squads will enjoy their one shining moment.

But the players aren’t the only ones with pride on the line. Before the ball is tipped, you too can get in the game by filling out a bracket.

And despite what your sports-obsessed pal might tell you, it doesn’t matter if you’re a basketball aficionado or a total rookie that doesn’t know the difference between a dribble and a dunk. In the years since the first pool began at a Staten Island bar back in 1977, no one has ever predicted a perfect bracket.

The odds are, to put it lightly, not good that you will either, but that’s no reason to bench yourself.

Consider this your handy playbook as you suit up for March Madness. We can’t guarantee you’ll walk away with any cold-hard cash, but we can provide an assist as you shoot your shot at bracketology greatness.

So, study up, because that mansplainer at your favorite sports bar is waiting.

Fantasy baseball: The final mock draft before the 2026 season

0

Opening Day is quickly approaching, and if you haven’t yet held your league’s draft, the clock is ticking. Fear not, though, as the ESPN fantasy baseball crew is ready to show you the results of its final mock draft of the season, using ESPN standard head-to-head points league scoring and roster settings.

Default rosters include 16 starters: seven pitchers of any kind along with a C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, three outfielders and a utility player (can be any position, and is also the only slot to allow a DH-only player). There are also three bench spots.

Hitters score one point for every base reached via hits (total bases), as well as each walk, run, RBI and stolen base, and lose one point when they strike out. Pitchers earn a point for every out they record (three per inning) and an extra point for a strikeout, as well as two points for a win or a hold. Saves are worth five points each. Pitchers lose two points per run allowed, one point per baserunner (hit or walk) and two points for a loss.

This draft was held on Monday and included fantasy writers Eric Karabell, Tristan H. Cockcroft, Todd Zola and Derek Carty, fantasy editors Pierre Becquey, Sachin Chandan, Joe Kaiser and AJ Mass, MLB editor Dan Mullen and fantasy product manager Shaun McPartlin.

If you’d like to conduct your own mock drafts, check out the Mock Draft Lobby, select one of several league types and sizes available, and you’ll be mock drafting in minutes. Ready for the real thing? Create or join a fantasy baseball league for free.

Things we learned from this mock

  • While you’re probably going to have to draft Bobby Witt Jr. in Round 1 if you want him, the next tier of five shortstops are likely to all be snatched up between Rounds 3-4. Expect a run followed by a lengthy wait for those who miss out.

  • Paul Skenes and Tarik Skubal were first rounders here, but if you miss out on one of these aces, don’t feel that you have to grab your first starting pitcher as soon as possible. Zola took his first SP (Jesus Luzardo) in Round 5 and Cockcroft waited until Round 7 to grab George Kirby (projected to be SP17) to anchor his staff.

  • You can wait on catcher. Yes, Cal Raleigh is likely to be taken off the board relatively quickly, but if you’re not locked into any particular favorite, there’s no crime in being patient. Only four backstops were off the board at the end of Round 10 and only six by the time Round 17 got underway.

  • Know your league’s tendencies. In our mock, there was no need to rush to grab rookies. Once we were down to our final bench spots, that’s when prospects like JJ Wetherholt, Konnor Griffin, Samuel Basallo and Kevin McGonigle finally got the call. However, if you know that your fellow managers are itching to grab one of these “shiny new toys,” you may want to pounce a bit earlier.

Oppo’s nearly creaseless foldable isn’t launching in Europe after all

0

Oppo has launched its “zero-feel crease” foldable, the Find N6, but while we knew it was unlikely to launch in the US, it’s a shame to discover that the promised “global” launch is also leaving Europe out in the cold. Instead, the Find N6 will go on sale from March 20th across what the company called its “key markets” in Asia, along with Australia and New Zealand.

It’s a shame, because like the Find N5 before it, the N6 looks to be one of the best foldable phones yet. The standout feature is of course its crease, which I looked at in detail last week. Helped by a liquid 3D-printed hinge column, it’s the shallowest crease I’ve seen on any foldable phone — by quite some way — and is genuinely difficult to either see or feel. The crease isn’t quite gone entirely, but it’s close enough that it’s now unlikely to bother anyone.

The Find N6 isn’t quite the thinnest foldable yet — that’s the Honor Magic V6 — but at 8.93mm and 225 it’s more or less the same size and weight as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Honor’s phone is barely a hair’s width thinner anyway. The Magic V6 also has a larger battery, though the 6,000mAh silicon-carbon capacity of the Find N6 is not to be sniffed at, and should be plenty to make this comfortably a full-day device.

The cameras look like the other area where the phone may excel. The triple rear camera system includes a 200-megapixel main camera and 50-megapixel ultrawide and telephoto cameras, all using Samsung sensors. The fourth lens is the same color spectrum sensor Oppo introduced on last year’s Find X9 flagships, which enjoyed excellent cameras, and though the camera bump is large, Oppo has worked hard to keep it relatively flat and flush with the phone.

A seven-core variant of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 powers the phone, which comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage. The only real area where Oppo has lagged behind is dust protection: The Find N6 is IP56, 58, and 59-rated, which means it has excellent protection from water but lags behind Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold and the latest Honor foldable when it comes to dust.

Oppo is launching the Find N6 alongside a new AI Pen stylus, which works on both inner and outer screens and charges via pogo pins in an accompanying case, which in turn charges wirelessly from the phone. There are also a few new software tricks: Multitasking is expanded with the addition of up to four freely resizable floating windows, all of which are kept active at once. Oppo has also said that it’s working with Google to bring AirDrop support to the phone, which should come in a future software update to join the existing suite of macOS and iOS integrations, including file sharing and screen sharing.

In China, the Find N6 starts from ¥9,999 (about $1,450) for a model with 12GB of RAM and 512GB storage, but the 16GB model equivalent to the global release is ¥10,999 ($1,600). The AI Pen and its case cost an extra ¥499 ($75).
