PFA Awards 2025: Mohamed Salah and Morgan Rogers scoop PFA player of the year awards

0

Rogers is the fifth Aston Villa representative to be named young player of the season, following in the footsteps of Andy Gray, Gary Shaw, Ashley Young and James Milner.

It is the seventh successive year that an English player has won the award.

Villa signed Rogers from Middlesbrough for a fee in the region of £15m in February 2024 and he became a regular under Unai Emery last season.

The 23-year-old featured 54 times across all competitions, scoring 14 times, as Villa finished sixth in the Premier League, reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

He was also rewarded with a first senior England call up in November, making his debut against Greece, and has gone on to earn six caps.

Arsenal pair Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri; Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez, who have left Bournemouth for Real Madrid and Liverpool respectively; and Liam Delap, now at Chelsea after catching the eye at Ipswich, were also in contention for the award.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper James Trafford, who joined Manchester City last month, has been named Championship player of the year after keeping 29 clean sheets to help Burnley finish second and secure automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Striker Richard Kone – now on the books of Queens Park Rangers – won the League One award after registering 18 times for Wycombe.

The League Two award went to Bromley striker Michael Cheek, who won the Golden Boot with 25 goals.

Trump compliments Sean Hannity, Ainsley Earhardt relationship live on-air

0

President Trump gave a shout-out on Tuesday to Fox News hosts Sean Hannity and Ainsley Earhardt, pointing out their romantic relationship, during an interview on the channel’s morning show, “Fox and Friends.”

Speaking about what the president characterized as a safer Washington, D.C., since his efforts to crack down on crime in the district earlier this month, Trump suggested Hannity and Earhardt would now be more comfortable going out to dinner when they visit the nation’s capital.

“There’s a guy named Sean Hannity. He might take a very lovely young lady that he knows very, very well to dinner in Washington and they don’t have to … she’s sitting right next to you by the way … I don’t want to get him in trouble, so I better explain exactly,” Trump said. “That’s the greatest relationship. Those are two great people.”

Trump said of Hannity and Earhardt, “When they go out, I don’t want to see them get mugged.”

“They can hold hands, they can walk down the street, they’re both superstars,” the president joked.

Hannity and Earhardt, two of Fox’s longest-serving hosts, announced their engagement last year.

A prime-time anchor and personal friend of the president, Hannity was granted the first exclusive interview Trump gave after his high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska last week.

Boston mayor to Bondi on 'sanctuary' threats: 'Stop attacking our cities'

0

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu (D) struck back Tuesday at the Trump administration’s legal threats over her city’s immigration policies with a blistering letter asserting Boston won’t “bow down to unconstitutional threats or unlawful coercion” from the federal government.

“The U.S. Attorney General asked for a response by today, so here it is: stop attacking our cities to hide your administration’s failures,” Wu wrote in a social media post linking to her formal letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Bondi sent letters last week to 32 state and local governments that have been deemed “sanctuary jurisdictions,” including Boston, warning that they could lose federal funds or face legal action if they do not assist with President Trump’s sweeping immigration enforcement efforts.

“For too long, so-called sanctuary jurisdiction policies have undermined this necessary cooperation and obstructed federal immigration enforcement, giving aliens cover to perpetrate crimes in our communities and evade the immigration consequences that federal law requires,” Bondi wrote to Wu and other local letters.

In her formal reply to Bondi, Wu lauded safety measures Boston has taken to tackle crime, often in partnership with federal authorities.

“Our City’s longstanding and productive partnership with state and federal law enforcement to protect the people of Boston far predates your tenure,” Wu wrote to Bondi. “The Boston Police Department, the first municipal police department in the United States, works closely with state and federal agencies to address counterterrorism threats, protect our airport and our harbor, combat drug and human trafficking and hold perpetrators accountable for crimes.”

She blasted the Trump administration for lobbing “false and continuous attacks on American cities.”

“On behalf of the people of Boston, and in solidarity with the cities and communities targeted by this federal administration for our refusal to bow down to unconstitutional threats and unlawful coercion, we affirm our support for each other and for our democracy,” Wu wrote. “Boston will never back down from being a beacon of freedom, and a home for everyone.”

The Justice Department didn’t immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.

The Trump administration has taken aim at cities and states — mostly ones led by Democrats — that have high crime rates or have not aided the mass immigration arrests and deportations that Trump has pushed.

The president last week declared a public safety emergency in the District of Columbia and seized control of the Metropolitan Police Force (MPD) and sent members of the National Guard and federal law enforcement agencies in a sweeping crime crackdown in the nation’s capital.

Trump deployed Marines and National Guard troops in Los Angeles in June amid protests over Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.

Meta’s AI translation tool can dub your Instagram videos

0

Meta is bringing its AI translation tool to more users on Facebook and Instagram, which automatically dubs your reels into another language. The feature also uses AI to make its dub match up with the sound of your voice and the movement of your mouth.

For now, you can only translate your reels from English to Spanish (and vice versa), similar to what Meta previewed during its Connect event last year. You can enable the tool by selecting the Translate voices with Meta AI toggle on the menu that appears before you publish a reel on Instagram and Facebook. Meta also gives you the option to add lip-syncing to your dubbed video, as well as review it before publishing.

Facebook and Instagram will automatically surface translated reels to users in their preferred language. Your videos will also have a tag that discloses that it was translated using Meta AI. The translation tool is rolling out now to Facebook creators with 1,000 or more followers and all public Instagram accounts.

Alexander Isak transfer: Liverpool and Newcastle latest over deal

0

That remains a big ‘if’, of course.

Howe has been consistent in his messaging throughout this saga: the door remains open to Isak.

But the Newcastle head coach stressed what happens next is down to the striker, who continues to train away from the group.

It certainly felt a long way back for Isak on Saturday after the away end called the Swede “greedy” following the goalless draw against Aston Villa.

Yet time is against Isak if he is to get a move to Liverpool, particularly when there are few realistic options left on the market who would be capable of stepping up for Newcastle.

Omar Chaudhuri, the chief intelligence officer of Twenty First Group, who previously worked with clubs like Newcastle and Tottenham, has noticed a “greater interest in top-class strikers” compared to years gone by.

“Globally, there have been seven centre forwards moving for 50m euros or more this window, compared to two in 2024, six in 2023, and five in 2022,” he said.

“But clubs should probably temper expectations as to their impact. Of the 19 strikers signed by Premier League clubs for 50m euros or more before this season, perhaps, only Haaland and Isak can be considered unqualified successes.”

No wonder Howe has maintained that the door is open.

Trying to, somehow, reintegrate Isak may yet prove one of Newcastle’s better options – and that is saying something.
